Suddenly can't access my Netscape 7.2 emails...

I am very desperate here! Today when I got on my computer and clicked on my desktop icon to go to Netscape mail 7.2, it acts like I've never had a Netscape email account (have had it for years with no problem) and now it wants me to start all over again with a new account setup!? It worked fine last night!? However yesterday I did do a Java update, I don't know if that caused a problem for when I restarted this morning? Can someone help here? I have a lot of VERY IMPORTANT emails in there I need to access. If it matters I am on Windows XP.

Juat to start a discussion here, let me copy/paste from what I wrote in my answer to your earlier post in another forum:

"All I can say is, that you only risk to lose those mails that aren't on the last backup of your mail archive. If you have a LOT of VERY IMPORTANT mails surely you have a recent backup, don't you?
And, luckily, in most e-mail programs, creating accounts and modifying their settings is independent of managing your mail archive. So, even if you have to recreate your account, your mails are still safely on your hard disk. Did you already search for them? They should still be on the exact same place as your backup always read them from.

It's very unlikely this has anything to do with the Java update you did. A program like Netscape doesn't use Java, I think (but I'm not really sure about that)."

Using such an old e-mail program is risky, seen from the point of view of getting support and help and information on the web.
Solutions and programs that are used nowadays are:
- a lot of people only use webmail (gmail, hotmail/live, yahoo)in their browser
- MS Outlook (not free)
- Windows Mail (came with Vista), Windows Live Mail (works on XP, Vista, 7)
- Thunderbird (free)
And there still is the occasional Incredimail user who is quite happy with the program until it fails and there's no support at all.

You write "living in a small town no one around here is any help either to get professional help locally". That makes the situation even worse. I'm afraid getting local support is the only option. Something like finding a nephew (or a niece of course) of a friend of yours who works in the IT and is quite smart with computers. Somebody like
that might be able to figure it out, upgrade you to a more modern and better supported solution and instruct you on how to backup your things.

Best of luck.

Any idea where to look for the old emails? I guess maybe I will go to Thunderbird, but don't know how to do that and get my old emails into Thunderbird? Is there anyone out there who can help?
