Screensaver will not work

I just bought a new Gateway SX2802 desktop with Windows 7. I cannot get the screensaver to come on.

Any ideas?

Nothing like a warranty call inside the first day of ownership.

Be sure to reveal ANY other device you added not from Gateway such as USB drive, printer, mouse, etc.

Did you check on the warranty issue or did you just need a quick tutorial? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-your-screen-saver-on-or-off.

No, I haven't called in on the warranty just yet.

I just turned the screensaver on as the directions showed from the link you sent.

I clicked preview and it showed the screensaver, but I haven't waited to see if it kicks in yet. I'll check that and tell the results.

Usually what happens is that it just goes to a black screen. I'm assuming it's going into "sleep" mode instead of using the screensaver. We'll see what it does now.

thanks

It could be an issue with your power settings- these could be set up for super conservation? Try your power settings here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Sleep-and-hibernation-frequently-asked-questions.

So I started the computer in Safe Mode

It said: Couldn't run 3D text screensaver because it needed a Newer Video Card or one that's compatible with Diret 3D

The computer I just bought came with Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset

I have no clue what that means.

But when I started the computer normally and clicked on settings in the screensaver box it said that it was able to use the 3D text and was compatible.

I'm at a loss.

Is it possible it's saying that my monitor was able to use the 3D text?

I'll check the power settings when I get home from work

Set the length of time away from your computer til the time the screen saver comes on to a minute, wait a minute, and see if it appears. Can you do this and let us know if you get a screen saver or not?

Also is this a built-in screen saver or one you downloaded?

I set the time for 1 minute and that did work.

It is a built in screensaver. 3D text

Mine's a new home built rig and it will suddenly forget to go to screensaver and just blank my monitor. When I look at settings, it will have screensaver at "none". I've no idea why it does this every few days but suspect a couple of things might happen. Of course it could be a Windows bug but I have to wonder if something in the BIOS advanced power management isn't at the root of this or isn't being properly detected.

I have a Lenovo T400 laptop with Windows 7. The screensaver works great if I am operating the laptop on its own, but when I put the laptop on its docking station (lid closed and using an external monitor)the screensaver will not operate. I get the same error as those above, about the 3d not supported. I tried the 3d text saver and the photo screen saver....neither worked when using external monitor with lid of laptop closed.

I have a MS mouse 3000. It is a wireless optical mouse. When I unplug it the screensaver works as it should.

Don't install any software that came with said mouse.
